Children’s sailing charity benefits from two local grants.
Young People Afloat, the children’s sailing club based at Lackford lake, has recently taken delivery of two Topper sailing dinghies thanks to money donated by The Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Funds. Young people in Suffolk are supporting Suffolk County Council in administering this funding scheme specifically for young people aged 13-19. These boats are a welcome addition to the fleet and enable progression through the Royal Yachting Association Youth Sailing Scheme.
Young People Afloat has been fortunate to receive two grants from The Suffolk Foundation who are committed to increasing the amount of charitable funding that is available and accessible to voluntary organisations and community groups throughout Suffolk. One grant, for training, has enabled one volunteer to successfully complete all the training necessary to become a sailing instructor, another has received funding to enhance his existing qualifications. The second grant has been used to provide waterproof two-way radios to enable shore to instructor/safety boats’ communication.
Young People Afloat is indebted to both organisations for their support.

A message from Denise and the team………… we were delighted to see so many of you at the AGM. Hope you enjoyed it too. It gives us a lot of pleasure to help you all to learn to sail and this year has been a particularly good one. I was really pleased with the lovely plant and how kind of your parents to present us with a collection which we shall enjoy using when we share a meal together in January, before Colin’s big trip, to wish him ‘bon voyage’. We look forward to seeing you all again next April
